If you’ve ever wanted to watch professional football players play — for FREE — now is the time to make a visit to Spartanburg, SC.
Once again the Carolina Panthers return to Wofford College for their 2-week training camp. From the end of July through August 10, the training camp will host 11 sessions in Spartanburg (there are still 9 remaining!) open to the public. All are free to attend, including two joint practice sessions with the New York Jets held on August 9-10.
Some things to know before you go
Tickets are required this year.
You can get them online through Ticketmaster, but the team notes that walk-ins are welcome and you don’t need a smartphone to get in.
Bring water, sunscreen, and things to keep cool.
It’s summer in the South and there isn’t much shade on the training fields. So be prepared to protect yourself against the elements. Here you’ll find the full list of what items are and aren’t permitted.
There are autograph sessions.
So bring your favorite Panthers gear and a Sharpie!
But be prepared to wait.
The day I attended, the autograph session was supposed to start at 11:40 a.m., but we headed out at 11:55 a.m. and practice was still taking place. So just be aware they may not follow the schedule exactly.
Fan Fest costs $5 and will be in Charlotte.
The Wednesday, August 2nd practice session will not be in Spartanburg. This is the Panthers’ Fan Fest and will be held at their home stadium in Charlotte.
In addition to a practice session, fans will see performances by the Panthers’ cheerleading squad, mascot, drumline and the Black & Blue Crew, with a fireworks and laser show to end the night. Tickets can be purchased online, with proceeds going to charity.
This may be your last chance to see them in Spartanburg.
According to WYFF, 2023 is the last year the Panthers are contracted to host their training camp in Spartanburg. So if you’re a local who has never been before, now is the time to make your way over to Wofford!
